What Is FV Up To?

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 06:34 PM (PST) by Jumper (band member)

Well, It's now August and we are playing our 80th show tonight. Pretty good for only 13 months of gigging as a band, eh?? So we've been playing alot of bars, festivals, benefits, showcases, open-mikes and private parties this summer. We are also taking sometime this month to record 4 more songs for our demo. We are going to be shooting a video of the band and putting together a nice presentation/package to get us many corporate gigs/festivals/weddings/etc. We hope to have the audio and video completed and up on this website by the end of August. Please come down any of our many 2008 shows across SoCal and Central Coast as we are rockin' harder and more illigal than ever. Check out our myspace and add us as a friend if you're not already (www.myspace.com/forevervinylband) Rock On!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008 11:11 AM (PST) by Jumper (band member)

Forever Vinyl is more than pleased to announce that we will be playing the 2008 Surf City 4th of July Celebration in Huntington Beach! With awesome fireworks and celebrety Grand Marshalls, this is a don't miss festival! We will be one of only a few bands playing on the beach (corner of Main St & Pacific Coast Highway). We will be rockin' out on the Showmobile Stage from 1:30-3:00 on Sunday July 6th. We may also be closing the 3 day Celebration at 5:30pm, but that is not confirmed yet. Hats off to the VFW and the psychobilly kids

Sunday, March 30th, 2008 02:53 AM (PST) by Rusty (band member)

I'm still wound up from our gig that ended just a few hours ago. We played the VFW hall in Norwalk. My first ever VFW gig. VFW stands for Veterans of Foreign Wars, and to be a VFW member you not only have to have been in the military but also saw combat. It was a real honor to play for these guys (and gals) that literally put their lives on the line for us. In fact our own Kevin was in the Air Force, Shawn's dad was in the Navy, and my dad was an Army vet. And as expected, they were an awesome group of people.

Right next door there was a psychobilly concert with several bands playing. You could literally hear them through the walls at the VFW hall when we were between songs. Psychobilly is an awesome style of music that has it's roots in both Punk and Rockabilly. Probably too hard-core for your mainstream crowd, but if you've heard The Cramps (who in turn were a major influence of the now popular White Stripes) or even The Stray Cats, they're considered a precursor to this style. I popped my head in before we started and caught a few songs from one of the bands. They were a 3-piece. Looked like the drummer may have been standing, rockabilly style. The bass player was on a stand-up bass, slapping rockabilly style. And the guitar player on a hollow body electric witha real heavy sound. It was pretty cool. All the kids were either wearing mohawks or donning the retro 50's or goth look.

So by about our second set or so a bunch of the kids from next door started spilling into the VFW hall. At least a couple dozen of them stuck around and were seriously into what we were doing. They came right up to the stage and together we ("we" being the band *and* the VFW's *and* the psychobilly kids) rocked the hell out of the place. I just thought that was the coolest thing. Had the a major dose of what I call the "audience/band feedback loop" happening -- which is when the crowd feeds off the band's energy, and in turn the band feeds off the crowd's energy, back and forth ad infinitum. Just takes you to another place.

That was one of those gigs I'll probably never forget.

~Rusty

Compliments & Acknowledgement

Monday, March 24th, 2008 09:10 AM (PST) by Jumper (band member)

The best feedback this band can get is all of those great compliments we've been getting from you at our many shows. For the last 3 months we've received some great praise for our performances. Some people have said, "You played that better than Led Zeppelin", and "You made that cover song your own, even better than the original". My favorite complement came last Saturday at Judge Roy Beans. We were told," You sound better than The Police (on Message In A Bottle). These compliments and positivity is what we aim for when we are learning and fine-tuning these songs every Wednesday in James' living room. We really appreciate all your feedback! Lastly, the Vinyl-heads and other band members would like to acknowledge band member, James "Rusty" Avgeris. He has been with the band 7 months now. It seems as once 2008 came, his guitar playing has climbed to a new level and he's on fire. Everyone loves to hear his great solos and funky rhythms. A show never goes by without someone in the audience ranting and raving how good "that lead guitarist" is. James has several signature songs including the cool reggae "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and the blistering Jimi Hendrix song, "Little Wing". Also, he gets the peeps up and dancing on the funkadelic "Sex Machine" and the country-rock "Keep Your Hands To Yourself". We are lucky to have such a great musician and friend in this band. The rewards of this band is so numerous, it's no doubt that Forever Vinyl will be entertaining audiences for a long, long, time.

It's right off the 118 FWY at Tapo Canyon and we play 8:30pm-12:30am both Friday and Saturday. There is no cover charge so bring your dancing shoes and we'll see you there!

42 Shows Booked in 2008....and counting

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 10:01 PM (PST) by Jumper (band member)

Is the band on fire? Yes, but not burning into the darkness. We're red hot with our 2008 tour. Yes, we have an amazing 42 upcoming shows already booked all over So-Cal and beyond. The band got off on a great start in 2008 with 12 shows in Jan & Feb. As of March 1st, the calls are coming in like crazy for us to play our energetic rock and roll. We cannot book shows fast enough. We have added shows at 3 venues down in Huntington Beach and one in Sunset Beach. We can't wait to entertain those wild OC girls...and guys. We are also please to announce that the historic Pitcher House-Upper Deck has booked us 8 more times in 2008. After 57 years, FV closed the PH on Sept 29, 2007 down in Hermosa Beach. Now they relocated to Redondo Beach and business has never been better. The people still come down by the truck loads to enjoy their yummy food and drinks and watch the best entertainment. Look for us there on Saturday April 12th, and the last Saturday of the month May-Dec. Thank you Dave for booking us for a total of 10 shows this year! Check out their site http://www.pitcherhouse.com/. Now onto something I'm super excited about. FV will be making our first trip up to the Central Coast to do a rock show at O'Reilly's Bar & Grill in Pismo Beach on Saturday March 15th. Young Jumper grew up here and is looking forward to having the band rock out to many old friends and family. The owner, Jeff has done a great job with this beach venue and people from all over come down to enjoy the great food, drinks, and of coarse dance the night away to great music. Ladies, better bring your dancing shoes down to this one! You can check out O'Reilly's at http://www.myspace.com/oreillysbarandgrill . The band will be booking occational shows outside or L.A. in places like Pismo, San Diego, Laughlin and Las Vegas. Can't wait for those ones to creep into our monthly schedule. Thank you Vinyl-heads for coming out to the shows and supporting the band. The audience is what it's all about for us. We'll surely see you soon, you cannot resist the temptation....

Busy Band

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008 05:08 PM (PST) by Jumper (band member)

Man, what a busy 8 days we had. First rockin' the Pitcher House on Feb 22nd and then Leo's on the 23rd. The band played it's first show in Long Beach on Wed at The Gas Lamp and got great feedback from the owner, Jen. The stage is enormous and bigger than The House Of Blues-Sunset stage. We felt like true Rock Stars. This last Friday the 29th, there was yet another awesome crowd at The Bull Pen in Redondo. Never once was the dance floor empty and the band played strong for 4 1/2 hours. We will be back at The Bull Pen for back-to-back shows on May 2 & 3 and once a month for the rest of the year. Then on to last night, Mar 1. The bands first show at Brennan's Pub in Marina Del Rey. This was a CRAZY night. The place was packed! The young party people came out of the woodworks and the band did not disappoint. Both guys and the ladies crowded the dance floor and let loose all night long, some of the ladies enjoyed sexually inticing the band with various gestures and such. We had a great sound mix and powered through 40+ rockin' tunes. Band was tight and on the money all night. This kind of party crowd is what Forever Vinyl loves about playing. The owner will be having us back in the 2nd half of 2008 so make sure you don't miss this one! The band is stronger than ever and the booking managers are finally recognizing our talent and booking many more shows in 2008. On our quest for 100 shows in 2008, we just might get there. Rock On!!

The Gaslamp in Long Beach Tonight (Wed)!!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008 08:03 AM (PST) by Jumper (band member)

Hey-yo Vinyl Heads!

It's Rock & Roll week and we have 3 shows to Rock in only 5 days. We're rock stars now but we won't let it go to our head too much. Tonight, Feb 27th we will be rockin' The Gaslamp in Long Beach from 8-10pm. This place is the premier venue in LB, so come on down. Happy Hour is from 5-7 and it is an all-ages shows so if you have kids, bring em down and let em loose on the dance floor. Friday Feb 29, we will be back at The Bull Pen in Redondo Beach, where the dancing is why everyone goes there. FV plays in eight area codes and this venue always has the best crowd of dancers by far! Then on Saturday, Mar 1st, come check us out at Brennan's Pub in Marina Del Rey. Home of the turtle races on Thurs and live music most other days. This large bar has a huge stage which this band won't have a problem making good use of. We're gonna tear it up these 3 shows so don't miss out. No cover charge for any of these shows. Hope to see your smiling faces there!

Coach Jim

Sunday, February 24th, 2008 11:59 AM (PST) by Benji (band member)

This blog is to celebrate a man who is leading his Kiwanis girl's baseball (softball?) team through a killer season. We first met the Coach at Leo's last night. He bought a pink Forever Vinyl hat (on sale at any Forever Vinyl event where merchandise is sold. E'mail us for further details as these items are going fast!)

Well, Jim explained that the reason why he chose a pink hat, was because he needed an item that matched his team's color of choice. He said that he was grateful that we had pink among our inventory, because he was telling his team (in order to appease them) that he was willing to dye his hair pink, or buy pink socks.

Well Jim, Forever Vinyl is pleased that you bought one of our pink hats to display proudly as you coach your team. We wish you all the best with many victories in your team's future!

"You are sociable and entertaining"

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 06:25 PM (PST) by Rusty (band member)

Those are the words printed on the little slip of paper I carefully slid out of the fortune cookie I just ate. Printed on white paper in CAPS and in red ink... in other words delivered LOUDLY with a great sense of bloody urgency.

Cute, but... that's not a fortune, as in "a foretelling of one's destiny." That a statement. A statement telling me who I am. I don't need a cookie telling me who I am. That's even worse than those "wisdom" fortunes, like "man who step in mud walk with muddy footprint" type shite.

What happened to real fortune cookies? With real fortunes? I want my fortune. I want a glimpse into the future. The yet to be revealed. The unknown, the mystical. I want my bloody destiny you little half baked, slightly browned, egg beaten, wanna be rice cookie, saucebox biatch.

See the problem is... the fortunes inside of cookies don't come from where you might think. It's not a room full of old Chinese prophets through some mystical, divine, spiritual wisdom, gleaned from years of meditation and fasting typing their newly discovered revelations into their laptops. No, no, no. Fortune cookies were invented here. In America. By a Chinese guy, yes, but he was an American living in San Francisco. It's an export. We send fortunes to the Chinese! There's an old Chinese monk probably reading a fortune right now that was written by an Indian company in New Delhi that was outsourced from an American company incorporated in Delaware. Hell, any one of us could probably get a job writing these things. WANTED: Fortune cookie writer. Must have a sense of flattery and a working knowledge of the upper-case English alphabet.

But I'll admit, my fortune is flattering. I'll take it. It's a nice thing to say, even yell, at someone. So I'm turning this post into a fortune post.

So your fortune, dear reader is:

YOU ARE SOCIABLE AND ENTERTAINING

Thank you, Panda Express.
